The E5 Bakehouse is an East London artisan bakery and coffee shop. Passionate about sourdough and the lost traditions of the baking ancestors. Using organic, locally-sourced ingredients, they serve delicious, daily-baked breads, fresh lunches, homemade cakes and coffee. Their head bakers also share their knowledge and expertise in a weekly bread course.
With the finest flour at the essence of the e5 ideology they’ve put a lot of thought into where it come from. All the flour used is organic and they increasingly source directly from UK farms who are growing diverse and ancient varieties of wheat. These are not only more flavoursome but of course sustainable. Suppliers such as Cann Mill, Maple Farm and Gilchester’s Organics have provided them with the first rate UK organic flour which continues to feed the ongoing evolution of the Bakehouse and fuel their mission to use exclusively UK wheat.
In 2015 e5 Bakehouse took over a 3rd railway arch in order to house the stone mill and mill on site at the bakery using UK grains, enabling them to have the freshest and more nutrient rich flour for their loaves. Stone mill is an inherently cold extraction process that causes minimal damage to the vitamins and essential oils present in the grains.
With an equal commitment to locally sourced produce for the cafe, all of the vegetables, fruit, meat and dairy used are organic, seasonal and supplied by producers know and trusted.
Committed to a sustainable approach to business, they consider every element of their process to make sure their produce is as good for the environment as it is for your stomach!
